EXTRA TIME
A Journey of Reflection and Gratitude
During my fifth and sixth grade days, as the sun would set and my childhood friend Nitin and I played outside, my mother's voice would call me home. It was the signal to put away playtime and delve into homework, dinner, and bedtime routines. With youthful enthusiasm, I often implored my mother for a few extra minutes to play with Nitin. On the rare occasions, she granted me an additional fifteen minutes, my heart would dance with joy.
A PIVOTAL DAY: Remembering a Major Motorcycle Accident
Turning the pages of memory, I encounter a significant event – a motorcycle accident that transpired a couple of decades ago, precisely on this day, the 26th of August.
My heart brims with deep gratitude as I remember the collective support that carried me through that challenging time. I sincerely thank my father, who raised me to be an absolutely fearless person, to my steadfast friend Navin, who swiftly rushed me to the hospital and organised my family's presence at the hospital, the skilled surgeons who operated on me, and the unwavering support of friends during that trying time.
I fondly remember my brilliant friend Dr Ajit Kumar Hegde, whose intellect and compassion left an indelible mark, even though he departed from this world a decade ago. It was his timely tip and support, my father’s risky and courageous decision that in fact went against medical advice, and my sister’s selflessness in dressing the affected area on my severely infected right shoulder for a whole fortnight that saved my right arm from amputation.
WISE INVESTMENTS: Utilising the Gift of Time
I can confidently affirm that the extra time, along with the added years granted to me by fate, has been judiciously utilised on my part. I invested time in the pursuit of profound understanding – an exploration of the intricacies of life, the wonders of nature, the enigma of human nature, and the principles of international business. After having studied in depth, the religious scriptures of the major organised religions of the world, I completely freed my mind from all kinds of dogma and theistic belief systems and dug deep into the study of the rational philosophy of Vedanta.
These years have also been dedicated to nurturing and guiding a cherished family with a fine young man for a son. The role of a father holds a place of paramount importance for me. Yet, above all, this precious extra time has been my canvas for learning the art of existence itself – a symphony of truly living, savouring each precious nuance, and celebrating the vibrant colours of life with unbridled joy.
